COURSE

The 5k run is an out-and-back course primarily on 84th Street and France Avenue. The route is along suburban streets and includes several hills. The walk is also an out-and-back course, with a portion of the walk looping around scenic Lake Girard on woodchip trails. Walkers can decide on the length of their walk by doing one, two or three circuits of Lake Girard. Click here to check out maps of the two courses.

2010 CDI BACK IN SHAPE 5K RUN, WALK AND KIDS' FUN RUNS!

Participants rave about the CDI Back In Shape’s 5k Run, presented by Northwestern Health Sciences University. From the food to the sports massages, from the raffle drawings to the open pool, runners won’t find a more participant-friendly race in Minnesota. Be prepared for:

  • Outlandish post-race buffet, featuring luscious fruit, fresh-baked muffins, tangy juices, gourmet coffee and lots more delectable delights;
  • Splits at every mile and plenty of aid/water stations;
  • Multiple awards with awards program featuring delayed video feed from the finish line;
  • Open swim in our 25-meter pool;
  • Locker rooms and showers available to participants and their families;
  • No Port-a-Potties - we have REAL restrooms;
  • Post-race health screening and sports massage; and
  • Stylish t-shirt is yours to keep.

AWARDS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Overall: A prize drawing will be held for all run and walk participants over the age of 18. Prizes include:

  • A travel voucher for up to $500;
  • $10 gift cards;
  • Hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, and more!

5k Run: More than $7,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top overall and age-group finishers, including:

  • Top finishers: The first place male and female finishers will receive $1,000 each. The top male and female American finishers will receive $500 each. Second place through fifth place male and female will each receive awards ranging from $400 to $100.
  • Age-group awards: $25 gift certificates will be awarded to the first place male and female finishers, $15 to the second place finishers, and $10 to the third place finishers in each of the following age categories: 10–14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-80; 80-older.

Kids' Run: All finishers will receive a blue ribbon.

Walk: All walkers will receive a gift for participating.

WHEELCHAIRS/STROLLERS

Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome on the walk only. Remember that more than half of the walk course is on woodchip trails. You do have the option of following the run course (but you will have to stay on sidewalks once you reach France Avenue).

T-SHIRTS 

Short-sleeve T-shirts will be given to all finishers at packet pick-up on race day.

REFRESHMENTS

Our past entrants have raved about the variety and quality of the food. We will have bananas, apples, oranges, strawberries (yes, strawberries), trail mix, yogurt, orange juice, apple juice, rice krispy bars, Great Harvest ‘muffins’, bagels, cream cheese, hot coffee and water.

SPORTS MASSAGES

Northwestern massage therapy students will be providing complimentary sports massages for your tired muscles after you run or walk.

POOL AND LOCKER ROOMS

The 25-meter indoor pool will be open for swimming until 11 a.m. without lifeguard supervision. Locker rooms will be open throughout the race for your changing needs.
