They Can Imagine Our Future

Capital Campaign Co-Chairs Are Passionate About Supporting Their
University
Joseph Sweere, DC, DACBO, DACBOH
Professor at Northwestern since 1986
A professor at Northwestern Health Sciences University since 1986,
Dr. Sweere is a passionate advocate for wellness care and a highly
visible voice for chiropractic. Dr. Sweere has been a speaker in
44 states and many foreign countries, and is the founder and president
of the International Academy of Chiropractic Occupational Health
Consultants.
As a faculty member at Northwestern, Dr. Sweere believes the capital
campaign is vital to the University’s continued growth and success.
“We are standing at a pivotal point in Northwestern’s evolution,”
he says. “I would like Northwestern to be seen as the star of the
north for the elimination of human suffering. The capital campaign
offers an opportunity to respond to that idea, to be part of a movement
that is much better than any one of us.”
Alfred Traina, DC
President of Northwestern, 2001-2006
With a career spanning private practice, teaching, and administration,
Dr. Traina understands both the educational and practical needs of
natural health care practitioners. Dr. Traina is a strong proponent
of patient-centered care, and believes the integration of natural
health care and allopathic care is vital to best meeting the needs
of patients.
“The capital campaign provides us with the resources we need to
lead the charge for integrated health care,” he says. “We are the
only institution that really has the understanding to direct the
integration of natural health care with allopathic care. We need
to lead the charge while understanding that the most important piece
is to maintain the identity of individual providers.”
John F. Allenburg, DC,
President of Northwestern, 1992-2001
Dr. Allenburg has been a part of shaping the University’s future
for the last 36 years. He served the University as a faculty member,
the dean of clinics, the chief academic officer, and as president.
With determination, vision, and incredible foresight, Dr. Allenburg
led the transition of Northwestern College of Chiropractic to a multi-program
university.
Now he is serving as the co-chair of a capital campaign intended
to propel the University toward its goal of becoming the nation’s
university of choice in natural health care education.
“The purpose of the capital campaign is to sustain an institutional
mission that has been focused on health care for more than 65 years,”
he says. “Our University deserves our best support.”
