Dr. David Stussy Donates $1 Million to Support Northwestern’s Capital Campaign Goals

David Stussy, DC, (at left), has donated $1 million to the “Imagine Our Future” campaign. He is pictured with Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern.

David Stussy, DC, a 1972 graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, has donated $1 million to Northwestern Health Sciences University’s “Imagine Our Future” capital campaign. Since he graduated from Northwestern, Dr. Stussy has been involved in a variety of endeavors, the most significant of which is his practice in Minneapolis. The Kenwood Chiropractic Arts Center, which Dr. Stussy opened in 1982, is one of the largest integrative health care clinics offering chiropractic, neurology, acupuncture, and modern medical and metaphysical concepts.

What follows is a Q and A with Dr. Stussy.

Q. How and when did you enter the chiropractic profession?

A. Thirty-five years ago I left dental school to enter chiropractic for the purpose of fulfilling my destiny, which I felt was connected to the brain and human spirit.

Q. Why did you want to give to Northwestern’s capital campaign?

A. I am heading into a new phase of my life and my commitment to chiropractic. This part of my life is now dedicated to helping the chiropractic profession. I have asked that the money be dedicated to the concept of integrative health, which I believe chiropractic pioneered over 100 years ago. The chiropractic model is one of health and optimal forward action using physical and metaphysical scientific principles.

Q. Who inspires you?

A. I feel my life has been inspired by four Johns: John Munchoff, a personal friend who inspired me to go to chiropractic school; John Denver, the singer/songwriter who demonstrated what possibilities a huge vision could have; John Allenburg, DC, a past president of Northwestern who demonstrated true mentorship and commitment to the chiropractic profession; and John Demartini, DC, an international lecturer and writer who was able to combine all of these ideas into an inspired vision and action plan, which continues to be carried out today.

Q. Tell me more about your commitment to chiropractic.

A.  Every week I acknowledge my belief in the spiritual aspect of chiropractic philosophy and my dedication to chiropractic neurology in my radio program, “The BigBrain Radio Show.” The program looks at the relationship between the physical brain and it's inherent neurological expression, and the metaphysical brain with its connection to the expression of all life. There are BigBrain People, and BigBrain Ideas and this radio show is a format for both. I am committed to sharing the vision and possibility of chiropractic to the world. Some of the guests on the show have been Ted Carrick, DC, a world-renowned chiropractic neurologist; Daniel Amen, MD; Dr. Demartini; Fabrizio Mancini, DC, president of Parker Chiropractic College; Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern; Brady Forseth, Northwestern’s chief development officer; and James Cunningham, a financial consultant.

Q. Why did you decide to give to Northwestern?

A. I am so grateful for the opportunities chiropractic has afforded me. I have had the honor of helping thousands of people on their healing journey. I have met incredible people and teachers, and I have had healing for myself and the people I love. Chiropractic is truly the greatest profession in the world and the world needs chiropractic. I am committed to the vision of Northwestern Health Sciences University.
