Dr. Hvidsten oversees the
curriculum content of Clinical Internships III, IV, V/VI and Case
Studies I and II. She administers the clinical and experiential
education programs for interns. She directs the Community Based
Internship Program (CBI), the Preceptorship Program (Chiropractic
Physicians Associate Program, or CPAP), the Clinical Rotations program,
and the Postgraduate Preceptorship Program. Dr. Hvidsten oversees
the placement process of interns/externs in appropriate clinical
settings, and the management of relevant quantitative data as required
for graduation. She is responsible for identifying and developing
quality clinical field training sites that meet the educational
needs of the students and standards for quality established by the
University. She also coordinates and implements service learning
opportunities.
Dr. Hvidsten has presented research at international
conferences and co-authored journal articles on chiropractic intern
education. She is active in numerous professional associations and
serves on several Northwestern committees. “My philosophy
of teaching is to provide hands-on opportunities for each student
until they become technically proficient and interpersonally competent
while coordinating all aspects of patient care with ease and confidence.”
Dr. Hvidsten received an MBA from Carlson School of
Management, University of Minnesota in 2008 and a Doctor of Chiropractic
degree and an Acupuncture Certificate from Northwestern College
of Chiropractic in 1986. She has 23 years of experience in clinical
education and has worked at Northwestern since 1994. She is also
certified in Chiropractic Spinal Trauma as well as a Registered
Medicolegal Death Investigator with the American Board of Medicolegal
Death Investigators.
