Northwestern Health Sciences University School
of Massage Therapy operates a Teaching Clinic. Interns provide massage
therapy services under the supervision of a School of Massage Therapy
faculty member, and participate in the Teaching Clinic as part of
their educational program. Interns will take a brief health history
relevant to massage therapy and will provide a full body relaxation-oriented
massage in Clinical Rotation 1 and a more clinically focused trigger
point based massage in Clinical Rotation 2.
Massage Therapy Clinical Rotation 1: Students begin
providing full body massage therapy services in the University's
Massage Therapy Teaching Clinic, under the supervision of a faculty
member. Clinical Rotation 1 is an opportunity for students to become
comfortable interacting with the population of individuals seeking
full body relaxation. Learning plans in Clinical Rotation 1 focus
on the application of full body techniques, as presented
in Massage Therapy
Principles and Practice 1. Students are also required to keep and
maintain a journal.
Massage Therapy Clinical Rotation 2: Students continue
providing full body massage therapy services in the University's
clinic system, under the supervision of a University clinician. Students
must successfully complete an individualized self-care plan established
between each student and their supervisor. Learning plans
in Clinical
Rotation 2 focus on the application of advanced techniques, including
trigger point therapy and cross fiber friction. Students are also
required to participate in community awareness.
