Event Volunteer Duties

Below are general descriptions for volunteer tasks at events. Depending on the event, the tasks may alter slightly but will general consist of the same type of work. All of these tasks have been approved for clinic hours by the DCE. Hours for each task will vary from event. Contact the CRC for details.

Set Up/Tear Down

Every event needs help prior to and after the hours. Tasks will include moving boxes, setting tables, organizing information, gathering materials, posting signage, cleaning, etc.

Staff Carnival Games

Several of our children’s events have carnival games as part of the entertainment. Games will be provided along with prizes and volunteers will need to interact with children and their parents in playing with the games, monitor prize distribution, communicate rules, and make sure the kids are enjoying themselves.

Staff University Booth

Every event we host needs to have information about the University. Depending on the focus of the event this booth may be just handing out information and answering questions about the school, or it may be actually providing spinal screenings, etc. Regardless of the task, volunteers will be asked to speak with event attendees, talk about the University, the program, the event, etc. Volunteers will also hand out prizes/giveaways from this booth as well.

Decorations/Signage

This is also a part of set up but is specifically focused on the look of the event. This will include balloons, streamers, location of flowers, hanging up signs, etc.

Lifeguards

Any event that involves the pool will need a lifeguard or more. Lifeguard training/certification is required for this task

Entertainment

Several of our children’s events need magicians, facepainters, jugglers, etc. If you have skills in these areas you could volunteer your services and interact with the families throughout the event.

Healthy Back Classes

Teaching a group of kids about things they can do to keep their back healthy and in line. This is done at one of the kids events and at many elementary schools throughout the year. This is an area of potential to get extra hours throughout the trimester as needed.

Monitor Tables/Hallways/Safety

Depending on the event, we often need people to help with monitoring. This can including making sure kids are safe while looking for eggs, or making sure the health fair vendors have everything they need. This is a great task to partner with set up/tear down to allow a full day of volunteering.

Registration (Back In Shape Run)

Talking with runners, finding the appropriate materials, explain event details, and provide directions, etc.

Awards/Raffle (Back In Shape Run)

Supervise awards and raffle prizes, take tickets, layout winners, answer questions.

Water Stop (Back In Shape Run)

Hand out waters for the runners/walkers as they pass at the event. Watch for safety concerns and call for EMT help if needed. This will also include set up/tear down for the stations.

Traffic Control (Back In Shape Run)

Monitoring traffic movement for safety/security for drivers and attendees.

Start/Finish Line (Back In Shape Run)

Guide the attendees to front line location and finish line set up. Monitor cone changes after the runners/walkers take off, etc.

Course Timers (Back In Shape Run)

Control a stopwatch and shout times to the runners as they pass the one- and two- mile marks.

Food (Back In Shape Run)

Monitor food set up and restocking as the runners/walkers go through the line.

Kids Central (Back In Shape Run)

Run kids races, monitor food, answer questions from families, hand out awards, etc.
