Recommended Browsers:

Mozilla Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox

Safari (recommended for Macintosh users, not tested on Windows)
http://www.apple.com/safari/download/

Plug-ins for all courses:

Adobe Flash player - http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflash/

Adobe Reader - http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

Requirements for viewing a course via Mediasite:

For all Mediasite courses you must have a broadband connection to the Internet (DSL or CABLE).

Before you download and install any additional plug-ins, click here to open up a Mediasite presentation. This will tell you whether you can view the course via Mediasite, or it will automatically indicate what plug-in(s) you need to install to view the course.

Note - we recommend using the latest version of Internet Explore to view courses via Mediasite on Windows computers and the latest version of Safari for Macintosh users.

Sonic Foundry recommends a viewer's computer meet the following system requirements for the best viewing experience using Mediasite viewer:

Windows PC:

  • Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 or Windows Vista
  • Display resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or greater
  • Windows-compatible sound card
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later, or Firefox 2.0 (Firefox 3.0 is not currently supported)
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 or later
  • Broadband Internet connection (256 Kbps or above) for live and on-demand presentations

Macintosh

  • Mac OS x 10.4.8 or later
  • Safari 2.0.4 or later or Firefox 2.0 (Firefox 3.0 is not currently supported)
  • Silverlight 1.0 (viewers will be prompted to install this when viewing a presentation)
  • Please note - the following features are not currently available with Silverlight viewer: speed control, closed captioning, and full screen video.

Note: Windows Media Player 9 for Mac is not a Universal application and must be run under Rosetta emulation on an Intel-based Mac. As such, the browser must also be forced to run under Rosetta as well. This is a temporary workaround until a practical solution is available.

Steps for configuring the browser to run under Rosetta emulation:

  1. Visit http://www.apple.com/rosetta/
  2. Go to the Application folder.
  3. Ctrl + click on the browser icon (e.g. Safari or Firefox) and click "Get info"
  4. Check the box labeled "Open using Rosetta"

The next time the web browser is launched it will run under Rosetta emulation.

Additional Comments:

  • ACELP codecs are not supported on the Mac OS.
  • The Flip4Mac plug-in causes problems when viewing Mediasite presentations and should be disabled.
