Requirements for viewing a course via Mediasite:
For all Mediasite courses you must have a broadband connection to the Internet (DSL or CABLE).
Before you download and install any additional plug-ins, click here to open up a Mediasite presentation. This will tell you whether you can view the course via Mediasite, or it will automatically indicate what plug-in(s) you need to install to view the course.
Note - we recommend using the latest version of Internet Explore to view courses via Mediasite on Windows computers and the latest version of Safari for Macintosh users.
Sonic Foundry recommends a viewer's computer meet the following system requirements for the best viewing experience using Mediasite viewer:
Windows PC:
- Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 or Windows Vista
- Display resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or greater
- Windows-compatible sound card
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later, or Firefox 2.0 (Firefox 3.0 is not currently supported)
- Windows Media Player 9.0 or later
- Broadband Internet connection (256 Kbps or above) for live and on-demand presentations
Macintosh
- Mac OS x 10.4.8 or later
- Safari 2.0.4 or later or Firefox 2.0 (Firefox 3.0 is not currently supported)
- Silverlight 1.0 (viewers will be prompted to install this when viewing a presentation)
- Please note - the following features are not currently available with Silverlight viewer: speed control, closed captioning, and full screen video.
Note: Windows Media Player 9 for Mac is not a Universal application and must be run under Rosetta emulation on an Intel-based Mac. As such, the browser must also be forced to run under Rosetta as well. This is a temporary workaround until a practical solution is available.
Steps for configuring the browser to run under Rosetta emulation:
- Visit http://www.apple.com/rosetta/
- Go to the Application folder.
- Ctrl + click on the browser icon (e.g. Safari or Firefox) and click "Get info"
- Check the box labeled "Open using Rosetta"
The next time the web browser is launched it will run under Rosetta emulation.
Additional Comments:
- ACELP codecs are not supported on the Mac OS.
- The Flip4Mac plug-in causes problems when viewing Mediasite presentations and should be disabled.
