This program also meets the new Wisconsin Chiropractic
Examining Board's requirements allowing chiropractors
in WI to provide nutritional counseling. Once you have
completed you will be eligible to apply for status from
the board to provide guidance and counseling to your
patients regarding the health effects of supplements,

David Seaman, DC,
DABCN,
DACBN received his bachelor's degree in biology
from Rutgers University, then attended New York Chiropractic
College, graduating in 1986. He earned his master's
degree in nutrition from the University of Bridgeport
in 1991 and completed his postdoctoral studies in neurology
at Logan Collge of Chiropractic the next year. A popular
and prolific author of nutrition, chiropractic and neurology
articles, Dr. Seaman is author of the text Clinical
Nutrition for Pain, Inflammation and Tissue Healing.
Each 48-hour program is divided into these
four 12-hour modules:
Module
1: Nutrition counseling and initial screen
to include nutrition physical exam; diet history taking;
analysis of lab data including hair, saliva, urine and
blood; symptoms of severe vitamin and nutrient deficiencies,
and the toxicity of excess supplementation herbs or
other nutritional supplements; protein, carbohydrates
and fat macronutrient needs and symptoms of deficiencies;
vitamin recommended daily allowances (RDAs) and dietary
reference intakes; mineral and metal needs of the human
body and the biochemistry of essential and non-essential
nutritional supplements.
Module
2: Codex Alimentarius Commission; dietary supplement
Health and Education Act of 1994 PL: 103-417 and related
regulations; etiology of organ system dysfunction, internal
medicine diseases and conditions; efficacy, safety risks
and benefits of glandular products, chelation therapy
and therapeutic enzymes; contraindications, side effects
and toxic effects of botanicals, nutritional supplements
and diet products; fiber needs.
Module
3 : Supplements and nutrition; therapeutic
uses of botanical medicine; food compositions and foods
as a vitamin source; weight management and control.
Module
4 : Sports nutrition, endurance, body building
and exercise physiology; nutrition across the life cycle
adolescent, geriatric, male/female; nutrition relating
to infants, pregnancy and lactation; food, drug and
nutritional supplement interactions; safety and efficacy
(risks and benefits) of nutritional supplementation.
Important
note: As per the Wisconsin Board of Chiropractic
Examiners, "[the 48-hour Nutrition] programs offered
by Northwestern and the WCA are not interchangable
despite the fact that the lecturers and outlines may
be the same. The rule states that the 48 hour programs
described in the rules must be offered by a single
