Antoinette Muirhead, LMT, while in massage school her mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She encouraged Antoinette to stay in school throughout her treatment -- Monday through Friday she was in school, the weekends she spent with her mom.
It was during this time that Antoinette realized she had to take her massage training to a higher level. This life changing event helped to define her goal. To reach this goal she sought out ‘cancer and massage’ courses by leading oncology massage educators.
She initiated the oncology cancer program at Memorial Cancer Center in Pembroke Pines,Florida nine years ago. It has grown from one center to four outpatient cancer centers. Nine years later, she is proud to be a founding member of Society for Oncology Massage, a new organization dedicated to educating patients, caregivers, nurses and physicians about the many benefits of massage for patients in treatment for cancer, in remission and for palliative care.
She has been a Lebed Method Instructor for 4 years. "The Lebed Method", is a fun, easy, therapeutic movement and dance program for both women and men who have had any kind of breast surgery, node dissection, radiation treatment, chemotherapy, or suffer from chronic fatigue. The Lebed Method's goal is to elevate the quality of life through therapeutic dance and movement, healing body, mind and spirit and is committed to improving the physical and emotional well-being of breast cancer survivors, those with Lymphedema, as well as all cancers and chronic illnesses.
