Wayne Mckinzie, LMT, CMLDT is the Executive Director of Shine Therapy in Ft. Worth Texas.  He has been in the massage/bodywork field for 22 years.   His interest in massage therapy began as a competitive cyclist.  The early part of his career focused on sports massage and athletic rehab.  He began working with Dr Dan Handel and Dr Steve Taylor at The Center for Pain Management in the early 90s.  This marked a change in his massage therapy career as he became more aware of the specific challenges facing people dealing with chronic pain and the benefits massage therapy could offer these individuals.  He was approached to provide massages at a cancer retreat in the late 90s.  This was his introduction to oncology massage and the natural application of what he had learned about pain management to individuals living with cancer.  He became aware of the void of therapeutic human touch available to people living with cancer and the side effects of its treatment. This became a natural extension of his previous work and provided a new focus for his massage career.

Shine Therapy was formed in 2003.  This non-profit organization offers Oncology Massage and Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to cancer patients during and after medical treatment and rehabilitation.  This project addresses the unique needs of people dealing with cancer and the physiological and emotional challenges they face. Shine Therapy is one of the few oncology massage organization in the United States providing services at no cost to the patient. This work is done independently of any hospital reimbursement and or insurance. All funding for Shine Therapy is provided through grants and donations.  Shine Therapy also provides massages to caregivers. During 2009, Shine Therapy will provide an estimate of 624 massages and/or MLD treatments.
