2008 Faculty Excellence Award Winners

 

Excellence in University Patient Care: Ryne Devries, Chiropractic

Dr. Ryne DeVries was in private practice in Wisconsin for 17 years before working in the clinic mentorship program at the Bloomington Clinic. For three plus years he has been a chiropractic practitioner and supervisor of upper trimester interns at Northwestern. His clinical experience, communication style, patient interaction and mentorship beyond graduation are greatly appreciated by his colleagues and studnets.

Excellence in Teaching: Dr. Renee Devries, Chiropractic

Dr. Renée DeVries is a graduate of NWHSU. During her first Skeletal Radiology class she realized that she wanted to become a radiologist. After graduating, she went into private practice in Wisconsin for four years, periodically nudging the university to start a Radiology Residency program. In 1993, Dr. DeVries started as the first radiology resident at NWHSU. Ever since she has been very dedicated to this work, loves her job, and sometimes cannot believe she gets paid to do it. She always giving 100% to the tasks she takes on and is a role model for her peers and for the students. She is constantly striving to improve her classes; among other ways by including and embracing new technologies such as the Audience Response System and Digital X-Ray.

Dr. DeVries currently is also the director of Radiology Consulting Services. In addition, to her commitment here, she also started pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education Policy and Administration in 2005.

 

Excellence in Research, Scholarship or Creative Activities: Yongping Jiang, MCAOM

Dr. Yongping Jiang had an impressive array of activities in 2007. He attended two international conferences in China in 2007, at each of which he presented a paper. The first of these was chosen as the "best article" and was published in the only Chinese medical newspaper in China. Another article was published in the Oct. issue of Journal of Chinese Medicine.

From 1983 to 1996, while he earned a master's degree and Phd in classical Chinese herbal medicine he worked in China as a tcm doctor. Since Spet. 1996 he has worked at the Minnesota College of Acumpuncture and Oriental Medicine of Northwestern Health Science University as professor of herbal studies and clinical supervisor at the Edith Davis Teaching Clinic.
