Organization
of the NWHSU Assessment Program and the University Assessment Committee
(UAC)
The University
Assessment Program is led by the Director for the Center for Teaching,
Learning and Assessment (CTLA) who also serves as the Chair of the
University Assessment Committee (UAC) and reports to the Senior
Vice-President and Provost. All assessment activities are initiated
and approved in collaboration with the University Assessment Committee,
which has been comprised of student, faculty and administrative
representatives from the academic programs and student affairs.
Assessment activities at the program level are led by their respective
deans and their academic program faculty curriculum committees.
The Board of Trustees, the University President and senior administrators
are kept abreast of assessment issues through periodic reports from
the chair of the UAC.
In February,
2004, the UAC participated in a planning retreat to establish small
teams to address specific areas of focus for assessment activities.
Committee members completed an inventory called the Team Dimensions
Profile to help identify their individual strengths and challenges
for effective teamwork. Based on committee discussion and preferences,
the committee members chose to participate in one of three working
teams. Each team was responsible for one of the following key results:
University and Program Level Assessment Planning [RED team]; Communication
and Education [BLUE team] and Assessment Implementation [GREEN team].
Team members focused their efforts to achieve specific goals within
their groups. Their work was regularly coordinated and reviewed
by the UAC. The teams' initial action plans are included in the
"Report on the A-Team Retreat" dated February 9, 2004
which may viewed in the "reports" web page.
