WHAT IS DIVERSITY?

The community of NWHSU acknowledges the dignity of all human beings, resolves to treat all people with respect and equality. We will accept nothing less. We recognize the differences among us, such as: culture, race,ethnicity, age, ideology, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, religion and spirituality.

Cultural Competency

To be able to function effectively in other cultural contexts which
implies learning new patterns of behavior and effectively applying
them in the appropriate settings. This includes:

  1. Valuing Diversity;
  2. Having the capacity for cultural self assessment;
  3. Being conscious of the values inherent within cultures;
  4. Institutionalizing cultural knowledge;
  5. Developing adaptation to service delivery reflecting an understanding of diversity between and within cultures.
