Program Overview

The Summer Science Academy at Northwestern Health Sciences University promises the most unique and amazing five days of experiential learning and fun that can be experienced. Students who are chosen for this free program will be excited and motivated, have their self-confidence enhanced, and be inspired to learn!

They will have the opportunity to learn all kinds of cool things about the health sciences, ranging from making vitamins to using a microscope to analyzing blood. And they will get to engage in a bunch of experiential learning opportunities unlike anything they have experienced before. Finally, they will build relationships and engage in learning experiences that will create a lifetime of memories and friendships.

The students who are selected to attend this structured yet fun learning environment will spend five days on the campus of Northwestern Health Sciences University immersed in a variety of new hands-on experiences. They will learn from teachers with decades of experience in their subject areas, and be mentored all week by Northwestern students and local celebrities will make regular appearances during the Summer Science Academy to share their unique perspectives with students.

Students who attend will have the opportunity to:

  • Make new friendships;
  • Explore new careers;
  • Discover new ideas and new interests;
  • Spend a week as a student on a University campus;
  • Build their self-confidence;
  • Create long-term relationships with fellow students.

Students who attend the academy as eighth graders will have the opportunity to return to Northwestern’s campus each summer for up to four years to be a part of the annual Summer Science Academy.

Mission

The Mission of the Northwestern Health Sciences University’s Summer Science Academy is to advance and promote careers and opportunities in the health sciences through excellence in education, mentorship and community involvement.
