Challenge Four: Build opportunities that recruit and retain
a diverse student body & workforce
There are two separate and interrelated aspects to this challenge.
One is the recruitment of students, faculty and staff reflective
of a diverse society, and the second is the creation of an environment
that fosters the retention of a diverse student body and workforce.
Both of these aspects are interdependent, but require different strategies
for implementation.
Several initiatives are already in existence at NWHSU which will
help strengthen our recruitment and retention efforts. These include
the diversity scholarship, the summer science academy, and the numerous
student organizations and clubs being formed on campus.
Targeted areas for improvement include:
- Provide support services to enhance the retention of minority
and international students and employees
- Identify measurable outcomes
- Evaluate and enhance current recruitment strategies
- Expand the visibility of employment at NWHSU to a more diverse
population
- ESL support services
- International student support services
- Enhance the development of managers in appreciating the benefits
of a diverse workforce
- Increase opportunities for inter group participation, dialogue
and understanding
