Challenge Six: Cultivate
leadership that champions Diversity and Coordinate organizational
change to support our diversity goals
NWHSU leadership has made a commitment to cultural competency and
diversity. It is critical to demonstrate this commitment by choosing
and cultivating leadership that is diverse and that will champion
diversity initiatives. Diversity in leadership lends itself well
to the understanding and appreciation of a broad range of perspectives,
insights, and approaches and in so doing is better able to understand
and serve all University constituents. Leadership should be increasingly
conversant with the impact of diversity in higher education.
Targeted Areas for Improvement Include:
- Demonstrated support and leadership of the identified challenges
- Diversify the Board and Cabinet
- Identify and provide diversity development opportunities for
University leadership
- Encourage and support students to be leaders in our diversity
initiatives
Identify and mentor faculty, staff and students from underrepresented
groups to prepare them for leadership positions.
- Weave our commitment to diversity through all aspects of the
University (marketing, communications, admissions, staff and student
orientation, curriculum, alumni, budgeting, physical plant, etc.)
- Implement the strategies articulated in the University strategic
plan.
