Health Education Materials in Multiple Languages

National Council on Interpreting in Health Care
The National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) is a multidisciplinary organization based in the United States whose mission is to promote culturally competent professional health care interpreting as a means to support equal access to health care for individuals with limited English proficiency. The NCIHC started as an informal working group in 1994 and met yearly until it was formally established in 1998. The group is composed of leaders from around the country who work as medical interpreters, interpreter service coordinators and trainers, clinicians, policymakers, advocates and researchers. Office of Minority Health Resource Center
The Office of Minority Health Resource Center was established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health in 1987. OMH-RC serves as a national resource and referral service on minority health issues. The center collects and distributes information on a wide variety of health topics, including substance abuse, cancer, heart disease, violence, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and infant mortality. The Resource Center also facilitates the exchange of information on minority health issues. Unlike a clearinghouse, OMH-RC offers customized database searches, publications, mailing lists, referrals, and more regarding American Indian and Alaska Native, African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Hispanic populations. AACU – Diversity
AAC&U has provided national leadership on the issue of diversity in higher education since 1971. AAC&U’s work in this area has focused primarily on higher education’s responsibilities in a diverse democracy and American pluralism, diversity, and justice-seeking as elements of a quality liberal education for all students. AAC&U’s initiative American Commitments: Diversity, Democracy, and Liberal Learning has been the anchor of this work since its launch in 1994. The project addresses fundamental questions about higher education in a diverse democracy. The project publishes policy papers and resources, supports faculty study and institutional planning, and provides materials for curriculum development and classroom teaching. Through this initiative and others in this area, AAC&U has created a community of institutions committed to making diversity an integral part of educational excellence and civic engagement. DiversityWeb is a comprehensive compendium of campus practices and resources about diversity in higher education. This site is designed to serve campus practitioners seeking to place diversity at the center of the academy's educational and societal mission.

The DiversityWeb project is housed within the Office of Diversity, Equity and Global Initiatives at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). African American Registry
The African American Registry features the largest African American History website in the world. The site offers a broad array of factual information about significant events and people from the rich African American history. In addition, there is a poetry and lyrics section featuring an unedited collection of diverse authors, composers and artists. The Registry also offers an extensive area showcasing the wide range of American lifestyles through the Black experience: education, activist, film/TV, music, episodes, theater/the arts, literature, business/medical, politics/law, abolitionist, sports/outdoors and religion. Lao Family Community Health Services
Lao Family Community Health Services is a founding member of the Multicultural Mental Health Clinic, a collaboration of La Familia Guidance Center, United Cambodian Association of Minnesota, Lao Family Community Health Program, and Thad Wilderson & Associates. This site provides a wealth of health-related resources targeted to the Hmong community, including information about chemical awareness and abuse programs, mental health programs, youth services, domestic violence, nutrition, diseases, and pregnancy. US Latino Web sites: Diversity & Ethnic Studies
This site is a great clearinghouse for web sites related to Latinos. The list includes Chicano (Mexican American), Puerto Rican, and Cuban American Web resources, as well as sites that pertain to Salvadorans, Dominicans, Colombians, and Guatemalans residing in the US . Only Web sites that are reflective of U.S. Latino realities are included; sites that are exclusively Latin American in focus are not included. Recommended Web sites are evaluated for breadth, perceived authority, stability, usefulness, and accuracy. Web index sites, clearinghouses, directories, e-journals and electronic news are the focus. A new section reviews a number of new commercial US Latino portals and commercial subject directories now being developed and marketed to Latinos in the U.S. Go to this website.
