Herbal Medicine Certificate
The Herbal Medicine Certificate offered at the Minnesota
College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MCAOM) allows
acupuncture practitioners to add another dimension to the
treatment of their patients. The certificate allows individuals
who have earned a master's degree in acupuncture, many of
whom may already be practicing, to take the classes needed
to develop the skills necessary for the safe and effective
practice of herbal medicine.
Admission requirements for the herbal medicine certificate include:
1. Currently certified in acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture
and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM);
2. Able to meet all the current admission requirements and qualifications for MCAOM’s master’s
degree in Oriental medicine. Applicants who do not meet current admission requirements but
have been working in the profession and are currently holding relevant licensure may apply
for a waiver of this requirement. The waiver may be granted by the Admissions Committee
and/or at the discretion of the MCAOM Dean.
Individuals who qualify will complete 499.5 didactic course
hours (including CPR) and 240 clinic internship hours (8 credits), which
will consist of both herbal medicine and acupuncture internship
hours.
