Course builds upon information learned in ORTH 6006 and greatly expands the knowledge and practical applications of physical rehabilitation science for the chiropractic orthopedist wanting to further specialize in physical rehabilitation health care. Students will spend time in a practical setting such as a rehabilitation facility, clinic specializing in physical rehabilitation or research department. Topics include mobilization, strengthening, and conditioning. Specific protocols for physical rehabilitation of special populations and patients involved in motor vehicle injuries are discussed. Additionally, a new paradigm of maintaining or restoring function in the context of (and sometimes in spite of) the pathoanatomic/orthopedic diagnosis (biopsychosocial model) is explored.
