This course explores the physiologic mechanisms of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism; the structures and functions of macronutrients in the body; how each macronutrient undergoes integrated metabolism in tissues; and how the ingestion of combined macronutrients affects overall metabolism as well as disease risk and recovery. The concept of food as medicine will be introduced. Clinical counseling on general metabolic issues will be presented with a focus on weight maintenance.
