NUTR6008:CLINICAL NUTRITION II: ENDOCRINE DISORDERS

This course evaluates the use of nutrition therapy to address cases of endocrine gland dysfunction and neurological disorders. The physiology and biochemistry of the endocrine system is explored in detail and related to specific disease states. Pancreas, adrenal, thyroid, prostate, ovary, hypothalamus physiology and dysfunction along with related chronic diseases will be addressed in detail to understand the nutritive support that is required to promote normal function. ADHD, Schizophrenia, Autism, and Depression / Anxiety will be discussed to understand how nutrition therapy can assist the care of patients presenting these symptoms. Practical nutritional applications and current available evidence will be reviewed and case studies will be developed by the students.
