![]() The Importance of Relaxation
We live in a society where multi-tasking has become the norm. The problem is that we were not designed to effectively handle multiple stresses at the same time. Whether stress is from a positive or negative source, your body reacts the same. Prolonged stress leads to a weakened immune system and fatigue. It can negatively impact your blood pressure, reproductive system, and endocrine system. The key is to learn to strengthen our resiliency and innate ability to heal ourselves. This comes from a combination of paying attention to overall lifestyle habits (nutrition, physical activity, sleep, etc.) as well as emotional and spiritual well-being. Being present in the moment and appreciating the simple things in life sounds so simple, yet few people truly practice this. How often does your mind race out of control in destructive thinking by playing out what-ifs and other scenarios or worrying about what might be. What if you just simply stopped and let yourself be present in this very moment? What if you gave up unrealistic expectations of yourself and others and allowed space for simply being? Some of these simple relaxation techniques can help you create a space for your mind to find that clearing. If you’re not taking time for yourself each day to be calm and centered, it’s time to start.
