Facing Life’s Challenges with Resilience

How do you deal with difficult events in your life?

Facing such life-changing events as the death of a loved one, loss of a job, serious health problems, terrorist attack or other traumatic experiences can be very challenging.

People who adapt well in the face of adversity and stressful situations have resilience—the ability to “bounce back” from difficult experiences.

Resilience is a trait that involves behaviors, thoughts, and actions that can be learned by anyone according to the American Psychological Association (APA).

To help you develop a personal strategy for enhancing your resilience, the APA offers a free brochure The Road to Resilience that includes “10 Ways to Build Resilience.”   To download the brochure from the Internet, go to the APA Help Center website at www.apahelpcenter.org and select “The Road to Resilience.”  To order by phone call (800) 964-2000.
