For Healthier Aging: Stay Active and Eat Wisely

Regular physical activity and good nutrition are vital for healthier aging.  They can help you feel better and improve your health and well-being.  They can also help prevent, delay or manage heart disease, some types of cancer, diabetes, obesity, anxiety and depression, arthritis, and osteoporosis.

It’s never too late to make healthier choices to get more physically active and eat better.   Even small changes can make a difference.  Here are some tips from the U.S. Administration on Aging to help get you started:

  1. Start today.
  2. Choose physical activities you enjoy.
  3. East sensible portion sizes.
  4. Set realistic goals to eat better and move more.
  5. Walking is a safe way to become more active.
  6. Make wise food choices.
  7. Record your progress.
  8. Find an indoor place to be active in bad weather.
  9. Plan ahead what you’ll eat or drink today to reach your nutrition goals.
  10. Ask a buddy or family member to join you.
