Breast Cancer in Men

Breast cancer is not just limited to women. Men can also develop breast cancer, though the occurrence is rare. Breast cancer is about 100 times more common among women.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer in Men Include:

  • A lump or swelling in the chest area
  • Skin dimpling or puckering
  • Nipple retraction (turning inward)
  • Redness or scaling of the nipple or breast skin
  • Discharge from the nipple

However, most breast lumps in men are due to gynecomastia and not cancer.

Diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in men are similar to that in women. As with women, early detection and treatment of breast cancer increases men’s chances that it can be treated successfully.

If you notice any breast changes, see your health care provider as soon as possible for an evaluation.
