To help get a good night’s sleep, the Better Sleep Council, recommends
that you make your bedroom a quiet and relaxing “sleep sanctuary.” To
do this:
- Select a mattress and foundation that are comfortable and provide
the support you need. If you sleep with a partner, make sure
there is enough space to move around and not disturb your partner.
- Select a pillow that is comfortable and keeps your head in the same
line with your spine as when you are standing.
- Keep your room dark during your sleeping time.
- Block out distracting noise with the steady, low sound such as the
whir of a fan or air conditioner. Consider playing a CD quietly with
the relaxing sounds of waves on a shore or gentle falling rain.
- Maintain your bedroom temperature of 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit (16 to 18 degree Celsius).
The average adult needs seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Some
individuals may need more, some less.
Make a good night’s sleep a priority. Adequate sleep is important
for good health and to do your best the next day.
