Reducing Your Travel Headaches

Do you experience headaches while traveling? If you do, here are some tips from the National Headache Foundation on how to help you travel headache free:

  • Plan ahead. A well-planned trip will reduce your travel stress. Take extra medication with you in case you do get a headache.
  • Make lists. Make a list of all that you need to do and things you will need before you leave.
  • Rest. Get plenty of sleep before you leave and maintain a regular sleeping schedule if possible while traveling.
  • Don’t skip meals. Pack snacks. Avoid foods that are known to trigger headaches including ripe cheeses, processed meats, and chocolate.
  • Avoid alcohol. Beverages which contain amino acid tyramine, such as found in red wine, can trigger a headache.
  • Schedule personal time. If you are visiting family for several days, take a break from the stress of family togetherness that could lead to a headache and go for a long walk.
