Want a fun and delicious way to stay healthy? Visit an apple orchard! Whether it’s walking through the rows of trees, picking apples, or hiking up a trail, many of the orchards in the Twin Cities offer a variety of activities to keep you moving. What’s best of all? You can top off your day at the orchard with a tasty and healthy apple! Most of the area orchards are open through December. Here is a list of a few in the area. This turn-of-the-century farm village offers children with hay mazes, hay rides and pumpkin patches. Adults will enjoy this orchards winery, unveiling both apple and grape wines. But the main highlight of the orchard? Hot air balloon rides! To learn more about this orchard, click here. Applewood Orchard This orchard is one of the newest in Dakota County. It offers hay rides, mazes, scarecrow making, and even group tours and even. Pick from a variety of 12 apples on dwarf trees. For more information on this orchard, click here. Deardorff Orchards This scenic, 100 acre apple farm is home of 15 varieties of apples on over 5,000 trees. Open in September and October, this orchard has a historic barn, animals, hayrides, pumpkins, and fall decor. For more information, click here. Deer Lake Orchard This orchard, open August-October, has 26 varieties of apples. Visit during “Apple Fest” weekends in September and October, and enjoy live entertainment, wagon rides through the scenic orchard and Groggins Woods, pony rides, and delicious foods. To learn more about this orchard, click here. Emma Krumbee’s Apple Orchard Open in September and October, this orchard creates an atmosphere that promotes family fun! From picking and sampling apples, to cider tasting, this orchard has something for everyone. When the pumpkins are ready to harvest, the orchard offers wagon rides to the Great Pumpkin Patch. The largest in Hennepin County, this orchard is home to a variety of apples including the ever-popular Honeycrisp. It also offers strawberries, raspberries, and an observation beehive. MacKinnon’s Apple Creek Orchard Open August-October, this orchard offers 15 varieties of pre-picked and u-pick apples. Tours and other group events are available by appointment. Open August-December, families will enjoy pre-picked and u-pick apples, hay rides on the weekends, u-pick pumpkins in October, and Live music every weekend in September and October.
