Bicycling Organizations

There are many organizations available whether you’re new to biking or an enthusiast looking for something new to challenge you.  They can provide you with great training opportunities as well as educational information for the entire family.

  • Twin Cities Bicycling Club – the largest recreational bicycling club in the Twin Cities. They offer rides for all skill levels. Membership is only $25 for a single and $35 for a household. Non-members can join any ride by showing up early to sign a waiver and paying a $2 fee. This site also has great resources for caring for your bike, bike safety, and training techniques as well as a schedule of upcoming rides.

  • Active Life and Running Club (ALARC) - this club is open to marathon runners, cyclists, triathletes, and any other athlete. They offer a variety of training programs for the beginners as well as those looking to enhance their skills and improve performance. Members receive training tips, newsletters, updates, nutrition information, and discounts at local stores (Erik’s Bikes, Gear Running Store, GEAR West, Marathon Sports, Run ‘n Fun, Runner’s Edge, and Start Line). Annual dues are $20 per individual or $30 per family.

  • Minnesota Bicycle & Pedestrian Alliance - a non-profit membership based organization promoting biking and walking for transportation. In addition to advocacy they operate the Sibley Bike Depot- a community education, repair and retail facility. Find all kinds of information here – including how to register your bike.

  • Athletes Under Construction - offers opportunities for cyclists who want to focus on racing and skill development.

  • St. Paul Bicycle Racing Club - the area's largest racing club, boasting 161 (and counting) members. They have a fantastic beginner's program, a great group of up-and-coming 3s and 4s, as well as an elite program.

  • League of American Bicyclists – offers bicycle safety and education programs; a bicycle friendly communities program; and other efforts to bring better bicycling into your community.

  • Bolder Options: A non-profit mentoring program that uses both cycling and running to help 10-15 year old youth learn to set goals and work towards them.
