TRAINING
Recommended Training Books:
Here are three recommended books to provide you with quality information for cycling:
The Cyclist’s Training Bible by Joe Friel
The name says it all. This book provides a scientific, self-coached training plan to help refine your skills and improve your cycling performance. It guides you through a year of training, including addressing training diaries, fuel, and recovery. |
Fitness Cycling by Chris Carmichael and Edmund R. Burke
This book provides expert advice whether you’re a serious cyclist or just riding for fun and fitness and includes a wide range of workouts and helpful sample training programs. |
The Mountain Biker’s Training Bible by Joe Friel
From the same author of The Cyclist’s Training Bible – the name says it all. This book provides a scientific, self-coached training plan specific to the unique needs of mountain biking. |
Training Websites:
- Bicycling Bliss: Learn nine essential skills that will move your performance to the next level. They are fun, cost little or nothing and will enable you to sustain a high level of health and fitness for years to come.
- Kinetic Bike Trainers by Kurt: Kinetic trainers are compatible with all bikes – from recumbents to BMX, to track, to road or mountain bikes, they all fit.
- Minnesota Cyclist - an online bicycling event directory for Minnesota that also provides a wealth of current cycling information. Whether your cycling interest is recreational or competitive, this site has something for you.
Training Indoors:
If you’re a fair weather rider, then you’ll be happy to know you can still log some great training hours and achieve a fabulous workout by training indoors. Many bicycle shops sell bike trainers; they attach to your outside bike to turn it into a stationary bike inside. Another option is to find a group cycling class at a local health club, but don’t be fooled – all programs are not the same! If you want a true cycling training experience with all the fabulous benefits of mind/body connection and motivational cueing, look for a Spinning® class.
