“Jesse’s” Mid-Program Results

The end of February marked the half-way point of the program and included some re-assessments to see how each participant is doing.

Physical Assessment

  • Blood Pressure:  Compared to the initial assessment, “Jesse’s” blood pressure decreased to be within the normal acceptable range.
  • Waist/Hip:  “Jesse’s” waist measurement decreased 3 inches, and the hip measurement decreased 0.75 inch.
  • Weight:  “Jesse’s” weight decreased 6.4 pounds
  • Body Fat:  “Jesse’s” body fat decreased 4.3%

What the physical assessment means:
It is easy for people to lose focus when they’re not regularly weighing themselves, but “Jesse” did well.  Although the actual pounds lost may not seem to be very much, the inches lost in his/her waist and hips is significant.  In addition, 4.3% decrease in body fat is significant and shows that “Jesse’s” addition of physical activity is effectively building muscle and losing body fat.  This number is far more important than what the scale shows.  As a coach, I remind each person that it is never about the weight and that the key is finding other ways to measure success.  Sustainable changes start with thinking differently about choices, which is reflected in the Life Balance Wheel.

Life Balance Wheel

The Life Balance Wheel provides a picture of how satisfied individuals are with eight areas of their life; each one is essential to being a whole and complete balanced person. When people are not living a balanced life, the wheel is lopsided; as they become more balanced, the wheel actually starts to resemble a circle.  “Jesse” filled out this tool at the beginning of the program and again at the end of February.  Jesse is on the right track.

What the Life Balance Wheel means:

“Jesse’s” satisfaction increased in several areas – particularly in those areas that were focused on during the past 3 months.  However, life balance is about not ignoring other areas while concentrating on areas in need of extra attention.  “Jesse” reported a decrease in satisfaction with energy, and his/her social network; this is a reminder that those areas are important for long-term success and need to be nurtured along with the other areas; living a healthy and balanced is life is about more than just the physical health.
