“Sam’s” Journal - February 2006

Biggest Successes This Month:

It occurred to me as I was walking down the hall a couple of weeks ago that I had more energy than I’ve had in a long time.  I also realized that I was living more in the moment - that all the components of my life were more in balance.  Now as I reflect on the whole month I’m very pleased to say that even though it’s been a stressful month for a number of reasons, I’ve been able to keep myself in balance and not let the stress take over.

Biggest Challenges This Month:

The biggest challenge was continuing to walk twice a day on the really cold days.   I had to talk myself into walking on some days and doing so twice a day when the weather turned extremely cold was very difficult.

Mid-Program Reflection:

I’m where I hoped to be in terms of having more balance in my life, as well as more energy.  I’m also very pleased with continuing to keep work hours in balance.  I had hoped to have lost more weight by now, but I know that that success will come.  I was able to reduce my BMI score by 2.2 points as well as lose inches, so I think the rhythmic eating is working - just not in the way I would have expected.  I would like to have been doing more strenuous exercises, but life and body circumstances have prevented those activities so far.  But…. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to do so in the near future.

Insights or Major “A-Ha” Moments:

I realized about mid-month that I was thinking differently about things.  I was making changes in my life and they were showing up as one little shift at a time.  I was showing up for my life instead of living in either the past or the future.  I realized that I was appreciating little things more - like quiet time with my spouse and walking the dog and being outside (when it wasn’t freezing). I also found that I was enjoying my work more.  I already love what I do, but I again felt like I was being more present in the different moments of the day. 

My Goals/Plans for Month 4 and the Second Half of the Program:

I’m going to work diligently on keeping my life in balance.  I am very pleased with the progress that I’ve made in the first three months and want to continue on the path that I’ve started.  I hope to continue to work on losing weight and adding more exercise.
