“Sam’s” Mid-Program Results

The end of February marked the half-way point of the program and included some re-assessments to see how each participant is doing.

Physical Assessment

  • Blood Pressure:  Compared to the initial assessment, “Sam’s” blood pressure is relatively the same (within a healthy range)
  • Waist/Hip:  “Sam’s” waist measurement decreased 1.0 inch, and the hip measurement also decreased 1.0 inch.
  • Weight:  “Sam” lost 4 pounds
  • Body Fat:  “Sam’s” body fat decreased 2.2%

What the physical assessment means:
It is easy for people to get frustrated when weight doesn’t change drastically; however a healthy rate of fat loss is ½ pound to 1 pound per week, so a 4 pound weight loss is healthy.  More importantly, a 2.2% decrease in body fat combined with 2 inches lost in the waist and hip area is significant and shows that “Sam” is effectively building muscle and losing body fat.  This is far more important than what the scale shows.  As a coach, I remind them that it is never about the weight and that the key is finding other ways to measure success.  Sustainable changes start with thinking differently about choices, which is reflected in the Life Balance Wheel. 

Life Balance Wheel

The Life Balance Wheel provides a picture of how satisfied individuals are with eight areas of their life; each one is essential to being a whole and complete balanced person. When people are not living a balanced life, the wheel is lopsided; as they become more balanced, the wheel actually starts to resemble a circle.  “Sam” filled out this tool at the beginning of the program and again at the end of February.  The results are remarkable!

What the Life Balance Wheel means:

“Sam” is remarkably more balanced and is clearly thinking differently about all areas of life – not just the physical health.  In fact, Sam said, “you know, I’m not so sure these areas have really changed that much, but my attitude about them has changed.”
