Face it, as a
population, we are over-medicated. Perhaps you know people who don’t
take anything when they have a cold or the flu; while they may not want
to put medications in their body or may not like the side effects, the
symptoms can affect the quality of their day. There are many natural remedies
right in your kitchen that can help.
- To relieve congestion, put some Thyme in a pot of boiling water and
breathe deeply; it acts as a natural decongestant and expectorant.
It also helps relieve bronchial spasms for those experiencing
bronchitis. If you are pregnant or nursing, you should not use this
remedy.
- To help stimulate your immune system, disinfect your respiratory
system, and relieve congestion, boil some fresh, minced garlic
and inhale the steam.
- During the initial stages of a cold or flu when you may be experiencing
chills, gargle ginger to help with heat loss and to help your
sore throat.
- For chest congestion, grab your mustard seeds. Mix 1 part of seeds
with 3 parts of flour and add water to form a paste. Place mixture
between 2 sheets of cotton flannel or wax paper. Rub your chest
with olive oil and apply the mixture. Leave on for no more than 15 minutes
(usually 5-10 minutes works well).
