can reduce the risk of complications. Some of the symptoms include:
- Frequent urination
- Excessive thirst
- Extreme hunger
- Unusual weight loss
- Increased fatigue
- Irritability
- Blurry vision

Health care providers conduct a Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) test to diagnose
pre-diabetes or diabetes.
- Normal values : <99 mg/dl
- Pre -Diabetes: 100 – 125 mg/dl
- Diabetes: 126 mg/dl or higher
Screening Guidelines :
- Men – should have fasting glucose tests starting
at age 45, every 3 years thereafter
Note: if any of the following
apply: obese, family history of diabetes (parent or sibling), member
of high-risk population (Native American, Hispanic, African American),
hypertensive, HDL-c < 35 mg/dl or triglyceride >250
mg/dl, or previous abnormal glucose measurement, testing should
begin at 40 years of age
- Women - should have fasting glucose tests starting
at age 45, every 3 years thereafter
Note: if any of the following

hypertensive, HDL-c < 35 mg/dl or triglyceride >250
mg/dl, delivered a baby larger than 9 pounds, testing, or previous
