Health and Emotional Well-Being
As you strive to lead a healthier lifestyle, you’re likely paying attention to your physical well-being through exercise, nutrition, and self-care practices. But how often do you neglect your emotional well-being? Your mental, emotional, and spiritual health need attention and “check-ups” just like every other aspect of health. We all come into the world whole. Then throughout our life experiences, we start to divide and create different masks and personalities – one that we show to the outside world and one we keep to ourselves. What we carry inside ourselves and what we project to the world are often very different, and this causes discord. It has been said that when we come to work, we leave the windows cracked open in our car so that our “true selves” can breathe while we’re at work. Think about it – who shows up when you go to work each day? Are you living your true, authentic self in an environment where you can be who you are? If not, consider looking at whether you are asking for what you need and giving to those around you so they can be true to themselves. This also applies at home and in your community. The key to your wholeness is finding that connectedness to life. The sooner you realize your thoughts and emotions are connected to every other aspect of your being, the sooner you can improve your quality of life. Distress is the number one reason people seek healthcare or therapy. Managing your stress is key! There are many tools available to help you on this journey to being emotionally whole – including many great free resources through your employer’s Employee Assistance Plan (EAP).
