You don't have to look any further than your own pantry to help protect yourself against cancer:
- Olive Oil
Provides Oleic acid which may help suppress one of the most important genes involved in the development of breast cancer. Use it regularly instead of butter, and consider adopting eating habits similar to the Mediterranean Diet. Click here for more details on the Mediterranean Diet.
- Bananas
They're not just for monkeys! The International Journal of Cancer reports that women who ate four to six bananas per week reduced their risk of kidney cancer by about one-half. The reason is that bananas contain high levels of phenolic compounds, which may have protective factors.
- Root Vegetables
The International Journal of Cancer also reported that eating one or more servings per week of antioxidant-rich root vegetables (e.g., beets and carrots) reduced the risk of kidney cancer by as much as 65 percent.
- Strong Onions
They may make you cry, but strong onions are healthiest and full of phytochemicals that fight cancer, while bland onions have fewer antioxidants. Try eating Western yellows, Northern reds, and shallots.
