Fatty Acids and Prostate Cancer

Researchers who added a highly unsaturated fatty acid to a sample of growing prostate cancer cells found that the cancer cells grew twice as fast. Other research has also suggested that a high intake of omega-6 fatty acids may increase the risk of prostate cancer. Choosing vegetable oils low in omega-6 fatty acids (e.g. olive oil and Canola oil) may help prevent growth or development of prostate cancer.  Although more research needs to be done, making this change in oils may help – and both are good for the heart.
