Business demands may sometimes
require employees to work extra hours, beyond those for which
they are usually scheduled. Whenever possible, the University
will notify employees in advance if overtime will be necessary.
However, employees are expected to be available, and to work
the extra time when needed, regardless of what notice has
been given.
Federal
and state laws determine employee eligibility for overtime
pay. If a non-exempt employee anticipates a need to work
extra hours, he/she must receive the supervisor's approval
in advance. Overtime is paid at a rate of time and one-half
(1½)
the regular base pay for all hours worked over forty (40)
in a workweek. Holidays and vacation count as hours worked
for overtime purposes.
Exempt employees are not eligible
for overtime pay. (See Employee Classifications
section).
