Students from Northwestern Health Sciences University Create Video to Raise Awareness of Chiropractic
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Three students from Northwestern Health Sciences University have created a video to promote chiropractic and to provide the public with a fresh view on the profession. The video promotes the idea that chiropractic is for everyone. It was released on “YouTube” and “Facebook” on May 4.
The video was made by chiropractic students Laura Torgerson, Matthew Mullaney, and Steve Wiseth. Others involved in the video included Northwestern chiropractic students Dustin Rising, Mike Modich, and Chris Mikkelson; Torgerson’s neighbor, Doris Mullane; Northwestern graduate Ryan Fischer, DC; and Mary and Tobin Landen, family of chiropractic student Erich Landen.
Torgerson initially thought of the idea after receiving several misinformed comments about chiropractic. “Many people aren’t familiar with the chiropractic field,” Torgerson says. “I started thinking about a commercial to inform people, and got really excited about it.”
A group on “Facebook” called “Bringing America Chiropractic Knowledge” (BACK) promotes the video. Members of the group can watch the current video; see when the new one will be released; view photos; and goals of the group. As of mid-May, the video had been viewed 1,479 times.
A long-term goal to be introduced this summer will be a “Beat This Video” contest. This will be offered to chiropractic students at any school to encourage others to promote the chiropractic profession through social media. Whoever creates the best chiropractic video will receive $1,000. The trio of Northwestern chiropractic students hopes to offer the contest every trimester. They are currently working on corporate sponsorship support to fund the contests.
To view the video, go to www.youtube.com and type in “B.A.C.K. chiropractic commercial.” Wiseth believes the video will be a good marketing tool for doctors of chiropractic to use to promote the profession. “The video is for chiropractors, by chiropractors,” he says. “The objective is to raise awareness about the chiropractic profession.”
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and human biology. The University has nearly 900 students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minnesota.
