Northwestern Health Sciences University Honors Acupuncture Pioneer Edith Davis
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Edith Davis, whose passion and persistence helped shape the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine in Minnesota as it is known today, died May 19 of cardiac complications at age 87. Her legacy at Northwestern Health Sciences University will live on in the Northwestern clinic that bears her name, The Edith Davis Clinic, which is the teaching clinic of Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Northwestern provided financial and technical support at a memorial service for Davis on July 31, 2008.
Davis was one of the founders of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Minnesota. She also started the Minnesota Institute of Acupuncture and Herbal Studies, which merged with Northwestern Health Sciences University in 1999 to become the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The school has earned national accreditation and the ability to award master’s degrees.
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and human biology. The University has nearly 1,000 students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minnesota.
