Northwestern Health Sciences University Opens New Clinic for Seniors
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Northwestern Health Sciences University is expanding its geriatric patient population by providing chiropractic care to residents of a senior care center in West St. Paul called Cerenity Residence on Humboldt. The clinic opened in November, 2008.
The relationship with Cerenity began four years ago at Cerenity Senior Care - Marian of St. Paul. Paul Osterbauer, DC, MPH, an associate professor at Northwestern, currently provides care at the Marian clinic as well as the Humboldt clinic.
Dr. Osterbauer noted that a larger portion of the patient population will need this type of care as baby boomers are beginning to turn 65. He added that this group of people this age is healthier than any group before, with fewer smokers and higher levels of physical activity.
Dr. Osterbauer is optimistic about the opportunities the new clinic will present for Northwestern students including internships, clinic rotations, and real life experience, which is part of Northwestern’s mission.
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and human biology. The University has nearly 900 students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minnesota.
