Northwestern Alumni Create Student Leadership Scholarship Award
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Alumni at Northwestern Health Sciences University understand how tough it can be to pay for a graduate education. Recently, a trio of graduates joined together to create the Student Leadership Award scholarship to recognize individuals whose involvement and leadership has made a significant impact at Northwestern. The scholarship was created by three graduates of the College of Chiropractic: Cody Hoefert, DC, (’04); Michael Smith, DC, (’06); and Jason Sherman, DC, (’99).
“We created this scholarship as a way to give back to an institution that has given each of us so much,” says Dr. Hoefert. “Without the education we received at Northwestern, we would not be able to practice and have the lives that we have.”
The group came together to create this opportunity because they want all future graduates to be successful, thereby making the profession more successful, according to Dr. Smith. “With this scholarship, I hope it helps ease the financial burden placed on our future graduates. If their debt can be lower when they start to practice, they have a chance to become more successful and financially stable, thus giving them the opportunity to donate and help others as well,” he says.
This year the first ever Student Scholarship Leadership Award was presented to Linda Hanson, a chiropractic student, who was honored for her accomplishments as Student Senate president.
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and human biology. The University has nearly 900 students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minnesota.
