Northwestern Naturals Open Collegiate Hockey Season With Double Victory Over South Dakota State University
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Northwestern Health Sciences University opened its inaugural collegiate hockey season with a pair of wins at home against South Dakota State University on Oct. 9-10, 2009.
A crowd of approximately 125 Northwestern fans – students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the University – cheered loudly as the Naturals posted a convincing 9-5 win on Friday, Oct. 9, against the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State (SDSU) at Bloomington Ice Garden. On Saturday, Oct. 10, Northwestern roared back from a 3-1 deficit to edge SDSU 5-4 on a goal by forward Aaron Howe, with four minutes remaining in the game. That game drew another 125 fans.
“Our guys played well as an entire team in both games,” said Steve Dus, Northwestern’s head hockey coach. “This was the first time Northwestern has played intercollegiate sports in a national conference, and the fans each night really got the guys pumped up.”
Northwestern’s next home game is against the Gustavus Adolphus JV team on Halloween night – Oct. 31 at 8:15 p.m. at Bloomington Ice Garden. Gustavus plays Division 3 NCAA hockey.
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and human biology. The University has nearly 900 students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minnesota.
