Leading Chiropractic Publication Cover Features President of Northwestern Health Sciences University
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern Health Sciences University, was recently featured on the cover of “Chiropractic Economics,” the leading chiropractic publication in the world. This was the first time a university president has appeared on the cover of the magazine, and is the first of a series of interviews with presidents of chiropractic universities and colleges to determine the current status of chiropractic education and its outlook over the next five years.
The article, titled “Leading though Education,” appeared in the Feb. 6, 2009 issue of “Chiropractic Economics.” It opens with details about Northwestern, what the University offers, and new developments and progression throughout past years. It then walks through Dr. Zeigler’s beginnings, and his journey that led him to where he is today. The article ends with some insights from the president about his hopes for the future of Northwestern, students, the profession, and health care. “It’s a great honor to be the first featured president in the publication,” Dr. Zeigler says. “I appreciate ‘Chiropractic Economics’ giving me the opportunity to showcase Northwestern, and the education side of the chiropractic profession.”
Dr. Zeigler was interviewed by Stanford Erickson, the magazine’s editorial director, who flew up from Florida to spend some time with Dr. Zeigler. “As we advance further into the second century of chiropractic, leading educators like Dr. Zeigler are not only developing chiropractic practitioners for this generation, but presidents of health sciences universities, including Northwestern, will determine how to further integrate chiropractic into other health care disciplines,” Erickson says.
“Chiropractic Economics” is distributed to 30,000 chiropractors, 20 times per year. According to Jeff Pruitt, advertising director at “Chiropractic Economics,” “Dr. Zeigler is moving the chiropractic industry out of the current way of thinking, while influencing people to support and donate to the University.” Pruitt adds that Dr. Zeigler is involved in not only the education and the students, but also in building community and giving back, which is part of his uniqueness.
“The ‘Chiropractic Economics’ feature was great exposure for Northwestern,” says Dr. Zeigler, “It gave me the opportunity to speak on behalf of the institution, and to explain the direction of the institution, as well as my position and concerns with health care.” The president believes the coverage is valuable to the University in that it allows people to understand where Northwestern stands today, and how it relates to the profession. “It speaks to the progress we’ve made, advancing education and applying it to where we will go in the future,” he notes.
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage and human biology. The University has nearly 900 students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minnesota.
