First Diversity Reception Held at Northwestern Health Sciences University
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Northwestern Health Sciences University hosted its first alumni diversity reception at the Airport Hilton on the night of Feb. 1, as part of the 2008 chiropractic Homecoming. John Flomo, Jr., M.A. who coordinates the office of multicultural affairs at Northwestern, led a discussion at the reception about how to expand diversity at the University, as well as how to provide scholarships and opportunities for these students.
Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern, also attended, and spoke about his personal commitment to diversity and his desire to see it grow. “We need you to get actively involved in multicultural affairs,” Dr. Zeigler stressed, encouraging those in attendance to be a part of Northwestern’s changing future.
The group discussed ways to start expanding the effort, and of their experiences as minorities at Northwestern. One attendee, Richard Fairrow, DC, expressed his admiration of the passion for diversity at Northwestern, although he graduated from another college.
“Even though I’m not from Northwestern you make me feel like it’s home, and I’m excited to help,” Dr. Fairrow said. “The passion and experience which we all have in this room when combined, can be a powerful nebulous.”
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, human biology, and integrative health and wellness. The University has more than 900 full-time students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minn.
