Northwestern Health Science University’s 2008 Chiropractic Homecoming a Success
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Chiropractic Homecoming 2008 was a flurry of activity as vendors, alumni, faculty, and staff came together to learn, celebrate, and reconnect at Northwestern Health Sciences University. Nearly 1,000 people attended Homecoming, which was held from Jan. 31 – Feb. 2.
Among the speakers at this year’s chiropractic homecoming were: Daniel Murphy, DC; Lindsay Rowe, DC, MD, DACBR; and Jorn Dyerberg, MD.
More than 100 vendors participated at Homecoming, offering doctors of chiropractic the opportunity to learn about everything from special pillows, to antioxidant drinks, to adjusting tables.
At Friday’s luncheon and annual alumni association meeting, many people were honored, both donors and Northwestern employees, while a dinner, dance and Texas Hold ‘Em tournament was held Friday night at the Airport Hilton.
Graduates of all ages mingled, enjoying conversation and music. Dan Kuhn, DC, ’96, said he has attended every Homecoming since graduation. “There are always good speakers, and I get to see all of my old classmates,” Dr. Kuhn said. “You really get a lot for just a little money.”
As the evening progressed, Dr. Zeigler called upon Todd Crabtree, DC, to introduce the distinguished alumnus award recipient.
Without naming the recipient, Dr. Crabtree talked about meeting this person and being given a tour of Northwestern. “It wasn’t the building that impressed me, it was the man,” Dr. Crabtree said. “He is truly one of the great legends of chiropractic.”
Dr. Crabtree then announced the distinguished alumnus of 2007 as State Rep. James J. Abeler, DC, ‘79. Dr. Abeler gave an enthusiastic acceptance speech, and said, “Thanks for giving me a profession to be proud of.”
Twenty nine scholarships worth nearly $17,000 were also awarded to 22 chiropractic students during Homecoming, and reunions were held. In addition, those who graduated in 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, and 2003 celebrated their years at Northwestern during a reunion reception.
Debbie Peterson, executive director of alumni, development and career services, said everyone seemed to have a wonderful time at the reception, which was held at the Airport Hilton.
“The reunion year reception is always so much fun,” Peterson said.“It's great to see the graduates meet up with old friends and spend the evening enjoyingeach others company. It’s a fantastic way for alumni to reconnect and make new friends as well.”
