Northwestern Health Sciences University Honors Student Leaders; Gives Student of the Year and Teacher of the Year Awards
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. —Northwestern Health Sciences University honored its student leaders and outstanding teachers during the Student Leadership Awards Banquet on March 20. Students were recognized for their participation in clubs and organizations and their leadership roles with the University’s Student Senate.
“The choice to lead is ultimately manifested by those who follow,” said Mark Zeigler, DC, president of Northwestern. “True leadership is founded by moral authority. I’d like to compliment and acknowledge each of you for your part in this, because each of you are our future.”
In addition to honoring Student Senate and club leaders, three students were given Student Leadership Hall of Fame awards and three faculty members were presented with Teacher of the Year awards.
The Student of the Year awards were presented to Amy Elizabeth, T2 School of Massage Therapy student; Chris Edwards, T8 chiropractic student; and Hua Yang, T8 acupuncture and Oriental medicine student.
Teacher of the Year awards were presented as follows:
College of Chiropractic
Kashif Ahmad, PhD, MBBS, MS, associate professor
College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Huan Ma, PhD, MMed (China), LAc, associate professor
Massage Therapy Program
Beth Burgan, MFA, MA, NCTMB, assistant professor
All three recipients of the Teacher of the Year award expressed their gratitude and said they too, continue to learn from the students.
Dr. Ahmad voiced his desire to help Northwestern rise above all other natural health care schools.
“I’m really humbled and honored,” said Dr. Ahmad. “I want to continue to strive to make Northwestern the best health sciences university in the world.”
Northwestern Health Sciences University offers a wide array of choices in natural health care education including chiropractic, Oriental medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, human biology, and integrative health and wellness. The University has more than 900 full-time students on a 25-acre campus in Bloomington, Minn.
