Northwestern Health Sciences University Plans Annual Summer Science Academy
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Northwestern Health Sciences University’s 2009 Summer Science Academy dates have been set. The event will be held on the University’s campus from Aug. 10-14, 2009. “The Summer Science Academy is an opportunity for selected eighth through 12th grade students to attend a structured, yet fun learning environment,” explains Tolu Oyelowo, DC, diversity chair, and coordinator of the program.
Students spend five days on Northwestern’s campus immersed in a variety of new hands-on experiences. They learn from teachers with decades of experience in their subject areas, and are mentored all week by Northwestern students. Local celebrities make regular appearances during the Summer Science Academy to share their unique experiences and perspectives with students.
According to Bill Kuehl, BA, director of admissions and one of the organizers of the event, “It’s a tremendous opportunity for Northwestern to give back to kids from around the Twin Cities area who are interested in science.”
