Course Prerequisites: --

This course involves building the muscles of the human body from clay and applying the built muscle to a model skeleton. The muscles that will be built in this class include the neck, trunk, upper and lower extremity. Students will also have the opportunity to observe prosected cadavers.

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Build the muscles of the human body as listed on the provided muscle list.
  2. Identify individual muscles built on a model manikin.
  3. Build a given muscle as identified by the instructor
  4. Recognize muscle shapes and thickness throughout the body.
  5. Recognize muscle layering throughout the body.

Expectations

Make-up Policy Upon gaining access to the lab, students may build the muscles they missed on their own. Students may receive less than full point value depending on the correctness of the muscle built.
Attendance
Top

Class attendance is very important. Students who fail to attend classes not only affect the quality of their own training, but also adversely affect the training of their fellow students. This is particularly true in laboratory situations, where students generally work in pairs. The School of Massage Therapy expects students to attend all scheduled class hours. Students who miss in excess of 30% of scheduled classes for a particular course will receive a failing grade for that course. More restrictive individual course attendance policies as stated in the course syllabi supercede this policy. Please refer to individual course syllabi regarding how attendance affects the grading process. Please refer to the School of Massage Therapy Clinic handbook for the Student Clinic attendance policy.

  1. Check off list of muscles for each session.
  2. Five Quizzes – 15 points each: 75 points
  3. Final Exam
    1. Build 10 muscles 100 points
    2. Identify 30 built muscles 90 points
    3. Written –fill in the blank 50 points
Laboratory Privacy Policy

  • Gross anatomy labs containing cadaver specimens will be locked at all times.
  • Access to labs and cadavers is strictly limited to students registered for approved courses at NWHSU.
  • No photography is allowed in the anatomy labs.
  • Cell phones are strictly prohibited.
  • Access to labs and cadavers is limited to post high school age people only.

All persons involved in the study, or with knowledge of the study, will keep CONFIDENTIAL all aspects of the study. All students will be counseled on appropriate respect for the cadavers and only involved students and faculty are allowed to use and view the cadavers. Any violation of these regulations will be punishable by immediate suspension and/or criminal prosecution.

Please Note
The schedule of lectures, lab topics, quizzes and exams, as well as course objectives, content, and teaching protocol, may be changed during the course of the trimester if circumstances require. Whenever possible, such changes will be announced in class before the date and time in question. Changes may also be announced by e-mail or through your mailbox. You are responsible for regularly checking your e-mail and mailbox for class and school announcements. You are responsible for anything that transpires during lectures and labs, even when you are unable to attend. In the event that you miss a class session, make sure you check with a classmate about any announcements or schedule changes which may have been made. Makeup exams are allowed only according to the policies described in the current Student Handbook.
